Dr. Summer Jenks and Harley!

When Summer Jenks was growing up in a small, rural town near Lake Erie, she knew she would be a veterinarian someday. She has always loved animals, and shares her life now with husband Michael, Captain the Pug, Sasha the Chihuahua, and two cats named Sammy-Gristle and Coqueta.

Dr. Jenks graduated from the University of Miami and the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She loves the outdoors, and when she is not in the office can be found canoeing, camping, scuba diving, fishing and surfing.

Some of her most rewarding experiences as a veterinarian have come from serving others. Dr. Jenks has taken two short-term mission trips to Haiti and Bolivia, and plans more trips in the future. By helping local people understand how to better care or their animals, Dr. Jenks was able to use her expertise to improve the lives of those who depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

The aspect of veterinary medicine she enjoys most is "keeping pets healthy so they can continue to be a source of love and enjoyment for their owners". She chose to come to Cleveland Heights Animal Hospital because of "Dr. Houghton and his practice philosophy. The hospital is beautiful, newly renovated with wonderful diagnostics, canine and feline isolation units, ICU, surgery and dental suites, is AAHA certified, and has a wonderful staff. It's all a veterinarian could ask for."

Dr. Jenks is excited about moving to Lakeland. She loves its location, "charming downtown", and she says she's "looking forward to settling into the community, joining the YMCA, attending church  with her husband, and getting to know everyone."
