A little history of a business is important:
Dr. and Mrs. Tom Houghton moved to Lakeland in 1972 when Dr. Tom went to work for Dr. Jim Daniels at the current, but much smaller, location on Cleveland Heights Blvd. He had graduated from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1970 with a DVM degree, but soon realized that there is more to managing a veterinary hospital than just providing quality medical assistance. Dr. Houghton went on to complete his MBA degree from Florida Southern College, and together with his wife, Debbie, expanded both the facility and the services available at CHAH. They raised four children in Lakeland, and all of the family members have worked in the practice. Currently, granddaughters, Julia and Anna, are part of the third generation of the family who are "growing up in the practice". Dr. Tom Houghton was killed in a farm accident in 2006. Dr. Robert Houghton has continued the family tradition as a veterinarian at Cleveland Heights. After graduating from Auburn University, St. George's University College of Veterinary medicine, and completing an internship in Trauma care at NC State University, he and his wife, Jackie, moved back to Lakeland and Dr. Bert joined the practice in July of 2007. We have been very blessed to have many wonderful doctors work with us throughout the years; currently, Dr. Kim Patrick has been with us since 2006 and Dr. Michael Amsberry has been our Medical Director since January of 2008.
The renovations and additions to our facility were completed in 2004. The building is designed to be hospitable and convenient, and the entire staff is dedicated to making the pets and their families feel at home. We believe that our purpose is to provide a caring, well-educated staff who will give the best customer service and the most modern veterinary medical services available in a safe and comfortable environment. We are all part of the CHAH family.
